REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
ENGINE
NOTE: Where necessary, see appropriate CLUTCHES or TRANSMISSION SERVICING article in this section when removing engine or engine/transmission assemblies.

Removal (Conquest)
1. To relieve fuel pressure, remove floor panel in luggage compartment. Disconnect electrical connector near fuel pump. Start engine and let engine run until it stops. Turn ignition off and disconnect negative battery cable.
2. To remove engine/transmission assembly as one, drain engine oil and engine coolant. Drain transmission oil. On models with M/T, drain clutch hydraulic fluid.
3. Remove hood. Remove complete air cleaner assembly and heat protector. Disconnect oxygen sensor harness connector and 2 intercooler air hoses. Label and disconnect all vacuum hoses, fuel hoses, electrical connectors, and all coolant hoses connected to engine. Disconnect both intercooler air hoses.
4. Disconnect upper and lower radiator hoses and remove radiator assembly (disconnect and remove engine oil cooler if necessary). Disconnect all control cables from engine and remove all external drive belts.
Determine if A/C system requires discharging to remove and support out of the way when removing engine. Remove power steering pump from engine (without disconnecting hoses) and support out of the way.
5. Remove front exhaust pipe flange nuts and disconnect exhaust from manifold. Disconnect speedometer cable, all external electrical connections, gearshift linkage, and any vacuum lines. Index mark drive shaft to companion flange and remove drive shaft.
6. On models with M/T, remove clutch release cylinder from transmission and support out of the way.
Remove bolts at top of gearshift tower and lift gearshift assembly upward to remove. Support assembly out of the way of transmission.
7. Support transmission. Disconnect catalytic converter at rear. Disconnect and remove bolts from rear insulator and remove rear crossmember. Slightly raise engine/transmission assembly and remove both front mounting insulators from vehicle. Remove engine/transmission from vehicle as one assembly.
Installation
1. To install engine/transmission assembly, reverse removal procedure. Use care to align front engine mount locating holes without twisting rubber on insulator. Tighten insulator mounting bolts and nuts with full weight of engine/transmission on insulators. Reconnect electrical connector near fuel pump and replace panel in luggage compartment.
2. Replace all gaskets and "O" rings. Replace all fluids and fill to specified capacity. Recharge A/C system if discharged. Adjust all belts, control cables and linkage. Ensure engine gauges, brake system, transmission gearshift linkage, steering, and clutch operate properly BEFORE road testing vehicle.
Removal (All Others)
1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain engine oil and engine coolant from engine. Drain transmission oil if engine and transmission are to be removed as an assembly. On models with M/T, drain clutch hydraulic fluid. On all models, reference mark and remove hood. Remove complete air cleaner assembly.
Disconnect all vacuum hoses, fuel hoses, electrical harness connectors and wires leading to engine.
CAUTION: Transmission gearshift lever must be in the Neutral position before removing gearshift assembly (M/T).
