EXCERPT:
Hazard Lights Circuit Operation
Function:
Provides pulsating current to the hazard lights.
Operating Conditions:
Hazard light switch in the ON position.
Theory of Operation:
The hazard light switch receives unswitched power through the F4 fuse, 042C and 042D Red wires, and switched power through the 072C and 072E Red wires. The switched power is used for turn signal operation; hazard light operation utilizes the unswitched power.
In the OFF position, the hazard light switch sends switched power to the 102 Red wire and flasher relay. From the flasher relay, secondary switched power is provided to the 127A, 127B and 127C Pur wires. The 127A Pur wire supplies power to the turn signal switch, while 127B provides a connection back to the hazard light switch. (See Turn Signal Lights Circuit Operation in Section 50, Group 20.)
In the ON position, the hazard switch connects the unswitched power to the 102 Red wire and flasher relay. The internal circuits of the flasher relay provide a pulsating output if a circuit path to ground is provided through a load component (turn/hazard lights).
The lights create this circuit path when contacts in the hazard switch route the output of the flasher relay (127-series Pur wires) to both the 115-series Grn wires (left side turn/hazard lights) and 125-series Grn wires (right side turn/hazard lights). Wires 115G and 125G Grn feed back to the ICC, flashing indicator lights on the display panel.
The flasher relay also provides signals to the ICC via the 148 Gry, 144 Yel and 146 Blu wires. These signals cause the trailer 1, trailer 2 and bulb integrity indicator lights on the display panel to flash.
While in the ON position, the hazard switch indicator light is powered by the flasher relay output. This light is grounded through the 050BH Blk wire.
