TROUBLE SHOOTING
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE
1. Ensure engine is cold. Set parking brake, and block wheels. Place transaxle in Neutral (M/T) or Park (A/T). Remove fuel tank filler cap to release pressure from fuel tank. Install fuel tank filler cap. Locate fuel pump relay in engine compartment fuse box. See Fig. 1.
2. Remove fuel pump relay. Disconnect electrical connector from fuel pump relay. Start engine, and operate until engine stalls. Crank engine 2-3 times for about 3 seconds each time, to relieve residual fuel pressure. Pressure is now released.
3. Disconnect negative battery cable. Connect fuel pump relay and install into relay box.
NOTE: To trouble shoot engine mechanical components, see appropriate table in TROUBLE SHOOTING article in
GENERAL INFORMATION.
NOTE: For reassembly reference, label all electrical connectors, vacuum hoses and fuel lines before removal. Also place mating marks on engine hood and other major assemblies before removal.
