If the air cleaner is clogged with dust, intake resistance will be increased with a resultant
decrease in output and an increase in fuel consumption.
Check and clean the element in the following manner.
1. Take out air cleaner element 1 from the air cleaner case by unscrewing screw 2.

2. Fill a washing pan of a proper size with non-flammable cleaning solvent. Immerse the element in the cleaning solvent and wash it clean.
3. Squeeze the cleaning solvent out of the washed element by pressing it between the palms of both hands: do not twist or wring the element or it will develop tears.
4. Immerse the element in motor oil, and squeeze the oil out of the element leaving it slightly wet with oil.
CAUTION:
Before and during the cleaning operation, inspect the element for tears. A torn element must be replaced.
