Piston Rings
Inspect the piston rings for damage, abnormal wear, or breakage. Replace the piston rings if necessary.
Piston Ring-to-Groove Clearance
Use a new piston ring and measure the piston ring-to-groove clearance around the entire circumference of the piston.
Piston Ring-to-Groove Clearance 2.0L Engine
The standard clearance for the top piston ring is 0.035-0.065mm (0.0014-0.0026 inch).
The standard clearance for the second piston ring is 0.030-0.065mm (0.0012-0.0026 inch).
If the piston rings exceed 0.085mm (0.0033 inch), replace the piston.
