Removal
1 Working in the engine compartment, loosen the clamp bolt securing the gear selector tube to the linkage.
2 Remove the gear-change lever (Section 5).
3 Remove the front section of the centre console, as described In Chapter 11.
4 Unscrew the four bolts securing the gear-change lever housing to the floor pan.
5 The housing and selector tube can now be withdrawn. Pull the assembly towards the rear of the vehicle. to feed the selector tube through the bulkhead. As the selector tube is fed through the bulkhead, have an assistant remove the clamp from the end of the selector tube in the engine compartment, to avoid damage to the rubber boot on the bulkhead.
6 If desired, the rubber boot can be renewed by pulling the old boot from the bulkhead, and pushing the new boot Into position. ensuring that it is correctly seated.
